08Pool house with a bathroomThree arched doors onto the terrace, a shower and a changing room behind them. Rendered stone, so it belongs with the garden.
09Studio for making thingsA black steel shell with a glass roller door at one end and north light down the side. Insulated, heated, and out of the house.
10Real ceiling heightA clerestory under a single-slope roof and a glazed wall onto the porch. Height is what makes a small plan feel generous.
11Full-height glazing to one sideA screened, glazed sitting end under exposed rafters, with a stone chimney to anchor it. Open one side, private the rest.
12Two storeys on a small footprintBedroom up, living down, a balcony in the gable. Half the site coverage of a single-storey plan of the same area.
13Its own address and entryA lit path, its own drive and a front door that faces away from the main house. What makes it a dwelling rather than a room.
