02Freestanding tub under a windowThe classic shot, and it only works if the window is obscured or looks at nothing.
03Wet room with tub insideTub and shower in one tiled zone behind a single screen. Saves a wall in a small room.
04Double vanity with a towerTwo basins with a full-height cabinet between them. Ends the argument about the counter.
05Floating vanityWall-hung, with light underneath. The visible floor makes a small room read bigger.
06Fluted or reeded frontsVertical texture on the vanity. Catches light and hides fingerprints.
07Full-height tiled wallsTo the ceiling rather than to a dado. More tile, less paint to repaint.
08Slab stone shower wallOne large-format panel instead of tile. Almost no grout, which is almost no maintenance.
09Niche in the wet wallRecessed shelf inside the shower, framed and waterproofed at rough-in. Costs almost nothing then.
10Matte black fittingsReads modern, shows water spots. Worth knowing before you specify it.
11Wall-mounted tapsNothing on the counter to clean around. Requires the plumbing decided at framing.
12Backlit mirrorA halo behind the glass. Softer on faces than anything mounted above it.
13Linen storage in the roomA tall cupboard inside the bathroom rather than down the hall. Always missed when it is not there.
14Green vanity in plaster and stoneA run of sage drawers under a soft-green quartzite top, in a limewashed room. Colour as the material, not a paint choice.
15Steel window to the gardenA black steel door beside the tub, sheer curtains and a marble-topped vanity. The bathroom opens outside.
16Stone trough at the windowDark painted panelling, a carved stone double basin on a marble plinth and brass mirrors. Rich, and calm.
17Book-matched marble wallChevron-matched slabs behind twin mirrors, on a white oak vanity. One stone, doing everything.
